Frequently Asked Questions:

1. How often do you update the weather videos?
It's our goal to post new webcasts each day, Monday to Friday. Look for a new Extended Outlook on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Storm Outlook's, with Dr. John Scala and Eric Horst, will be produced when significant storms threaten the area. We are currently training a few of our fine undergraduate meteorology majors, so they will begin to appear in the Short-Term Forecasts. Our educational segment, Weather 101, will be update about once per month, as will our Climate Review with Dr. Sepi Yalda. Finally, Special Topic features will be added intermittantly by our faculty and staff. We welcome your input and feedback as we continue to expand our Streaming Video service. Please email us at: wic@millersville.edu

2. What type of media player do I need in order to view your webcasts?
Windows Media Player 9.0 will provide optimal viewing. Click here to download this software for free. Older versions of media player may or may not work--older versions of media player may play audio, but no video, or nothing at all.

3. Occasionally I have problems connecting to your Streaming Video--the media player gets stuck in the "connecting" mode or doesn't respond at all. What's the problem?
New firewalls installed here at Millersville sometimes slow the streaming feed. Our IT staff is working to resolve this problem, and the streaming feed seems to be improved. Still, a long response time make occur at times of high network traffic. Remember that our webcast links are active 24-7, so try again in a few minutes (or hours) and if you encounter problems.

4. How can I gain the best quality webcasts?
Each webcast is available in three different resolutions: Dial-up, DSL/Cable, and Cable/LAN. The former version is highly compressed for download over dial-up/modem connections, so expect a small viewing screen with jumpy video and tinny sound. Folks with high-speed Internet access (DSL & Cable) can view a much better quality version with a larger viewing window and more crisp video and sound quality. In the Lancaster area, you can obtain broadband Internet access from Comcast Cable. Verizon DSL service is available in parts of the county. The Cable/LAN version is ideal for on-campus viewers as well as others possessing fast Cable or corporate LAN Internet connections.
