Vice-President - Matt Potter

Matt Potter

Matt is a senior Meteorology major with a minor in Mathematics at Millersville University. Although he is very interested in a career in forecasting, he is open to winter weather research, ranging from the characteristics of winter storms to winter storm forecasting issues. In the summer of 2009, Matt was given the opportunity to be a part of the forecast team at Accuweather, a worldwide multimedia weather forecast company in State College, Pa. He has been involved with the local chapter of the AMS for the past three years, and this past year he setup the first annual Millersville University Public Weather Awareness Day, which is a community event that connects the public to the field of meteorology. Outside of AMS, he is also involved with many other activities. During the school year, he participates in WxChallenge, which is a national forecasting competition. Matt is also part of a team of students that maintain a water collecting site off campus that is part of a national rain deposition network. He also works as a lead forecaster in the Campus Weather Service, a streaming video broadcaster, and a forecast assistant during the winter time when winter storm forecasts are needed for PennDOT. Outside of meteorology and his studies, Matt enjoys playing golf, basketball, and intramural softball. He also loves to root on his favorite sports teams, the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots.
