Biography
I was born in Ogden, Utah in 1963, and grew up in Layton, graduating from Layton High School in 1981. I attended the University of Utah on a Navy ROTC scholarship and was commissioned in June, 1985. My first tour of duty was as a Surface Warfare Officer aboard the USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65). I then became a Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC) Officer, and had shore billets in Keflavik, Iceland; Monterey, CA; Jacksonville, FL; and Guam. While working on a masters at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey I married another naval officer, Marcia DeCaria (formerly Marcia Kuechler) of Branson, MO. One of our sons was born in Monterey, and the other was born in Guam.
In 1996 I resigned my commission as a Lieutenant Commander
and went to the University of Maryland for my Ph.D., graduating in the summer
of 2000. Earlier that year Marcia was
selected for promotion to Commander.
However, we decided that a stable family life was more important to us
than a commander’s paycheck, and so she retired from the Navy and we moved to Lancaster,
PA, where I am currently an Associate Professor of Meteorology at Millersville
University.
If you know me from somewhere in the past I would be happy to hear from you.
